We held our national web design and development competition at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta during the first week of June (June 1 – 5). This marked the 23rd consecutive year we have held this competition. We are most appreciative of those who made the trek to Georgia (including David Jackson and Tammy Finch).
As we have done in recent years, this competition was entirely online. Competitors were provided with a server based coding environment. This year, they were able to meet the client in person and ask questions about the desired site. Competitors were encouraged to use font libraries (such as Google fonts) and were asked to provide an overview of their web development process and wireframes/ storyboards to practicing professionals from Illinois. Competitors were also interviewed regarding why they should be hired as a team. We separate the business acumen questions from the process questions to develop a better picture of the capabilities of each team. This year, both college and high school competing teams were presented with a twist after lunch. If they properly coded their website, the twist was a minor hiccup. If not… Teams seemed to enjoy the extra challenge.
We offer congratulations to all teams. In order to compete in our national contest, each team has to win first place in their respective state competition. Therefore, all who are present are winners. Those who made the finals (gold, silver, and bronze) are listed below. We hold separate college/ post-secondary and high school competitions. We are proud that so many states now ask us to also help with their competitions in preparation for our national competition in Atlanta.
College/ Post-secondary winners
- Gold – TENNESSEE – Logan Gardner and Shinny No
- Silver – MISSOURI – Nyx Strong and Geoffrey Wortham
- Bronze – UTAH – Maximus Jacobs and James Jensen
High School/ Secondary winners
- Gold – RHODE ISLAND – Sai Kushal Godavarthi and Ryan Pfeiffer
- Silver – OHIO – Jaden Baker and Jonah Morris
- Bronze – IDAHO – Daniel Sagan and Kian Whittingham
Web Professionals Global staff were also included in the above photo (there was insufficient time to include the staff in the college photos as well). Left to right (in WPG polo shirts include: Tammy Finch, Mark DuBois, and David Jackson). Tammy and David were able to go on stage and award the medals to the winners of our competitions.
Congratulations again to all who participated. We are already looking forward to 2027 in Atlanta. Hope to see you there.
