Cindy Li will give the opening keynote at the 2012 National Web Design Contest
The membership supported WebProfessionals.org is sponsor for the 2012 National Web Design Contest, the annual Web design and development contest for hundreds of U.S. based high school and community college students. Yahoo’s Designer Cindy Li will be the keynote speaker for the orientation session of the event on Sunday, June 24, 2012 from 2-4 pm at room 2241 Bartle Hall. This will make Li the first corporation rock star to keynote at the national Web Design Contest.
Cindy Li lives in San Francisco where she works as a Staff Product Designer for Yahoo! Her design experience has ranged from typesetting the 1996 Atlanta Olympics wall, working on internet television for AOLTV, and designing mobile products for Yahoo! products such as Mail, Messenger, and Flickr.
She was a contributing author to Professional CSS: Cascading Style Sheets for Web Design (Wrox, 2008) and sits on the advisory board for SXSW Interactive. Cindy has spoken at Open Web Camp, Girl Geek Dinner, FOWD, Refresh DC, SXSW Interactive, and has contributed articles to .Net Magazine (UK). Cindy learned to sew in 1999 so she could make her own Queen Amidala costume, which has since become famous on Flickr. She shares pictures of the culinary delights she experiences, and can often be found baking tasty lemon curd tarts.
“Cindy Li has been a strong advocate for the Web profession and has worked extensively to elevate the role of aspiring Web designers and to increase their participation in the Web profession,” stated Bill Cullifer, 2012 Web Design Contest chairman. The decision for Cindy Li to keynote coincides with the WebProfessionals.org organization goals to close the skills gap in the U.S., by encouraging the participation of students and those that teach in the Web profession.
